Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 41.50 crore on Thursday, 17 May 2012, compared with outflow of Rs 481.60 crore on Wednesday, 16 May 2012. The net inflow of Rs 41.50 crore on 17 May 2012 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 2299.80 crore and gross sales Rs 2258.30 crore. There was a net inflow of Rs 39.70 crore into the secondary equity markets on 17 May 2012, which was a result of gross purchases Rs 2297.80 crore and gross sales Rs 2258.10 crore. The BSE Sensex had risen 40.39 points or 0.25% to settle at 16,070.48 on that day, its highest closing level since 15 May 2012. There was a net inflow of Rs 1.90 crore into the category 'primary market others' on Thursday, 17 May 2012, which was a result of gross purchases Rs 2 crore and gross sales Rs 0.20 crore. FIIs have bought shares worth net Rs 415.90 crore in May 2012 so far (till 17 May 2012). FIIs had sold shares worth net Rs 1109.10 crore in April 2012. FIIs have bought shares worth net Rs 43257.40 crore in calendar 2012 so far (till 17 May 2012). FIIs had offloaded shares worth a net Rs 2714.20 crore in 2011.
